The Blueair 450e is a good choice for a medium room. It is very similar to the Blueair 403 except it has electronic controls and a remote. It will work well in the living room, den, or dining room. It's going to do a great job in a room up to 365 square feet. It features sturdy all steel construction.

and remote
Unlike the 403, the 450e has electronic controls and a remote control. The picture to the right shows the controls and remote.
The Blueair 450e has both a mechanical filter and an ionizer. The mechanical filter is less dense than a regular HEPA filter. This helps to reduce the amount of noise it makes. The ionizer charges the particles in the air. This helps them stick to the filter media. This filter can remove up to 99.97% of airborne particles 0.1 microns and bigger. It will remove dust, dust mites, pollens, and other allergens.
The optional activated carbon filter will remove odors and chemicals. It's called a smokestop filter.
For serious odor or chemical removal you should think about an air purifier by Austin Air, IQAir, or AllerAir.
The Blueair 450e has an expected filter life of 6 months. The mechanical filter must be replaced.
The yearly upkeep cost is either $120 or $240.
The 450e cleans up to 365 square feet. Naturally, the smaller the space the better job it does. This air purifier will clean a room that is 20 feet by 18 feet. It is good for a living or dining room. It would also work great in a large master bedroom.
It is certified by AHAM with a CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) of:
It will provide 5 air exchanges per hour.
The 450e has an automatic setting that will monitor the particles in the air. It sets the fan speed based on the number of particles in the air. Be careful using automatic setting at night. It can speed the fan up causing a lot of noise. It could wake you up. We recommend always setting the fan to the lowest speed at night.
The 450e measures 20 inches X 11 inches X 23 inches (L X W X H). It weighs about 33 pounds.
There is a 5 year limited warranty on material and workmanship. During the first 30 days Blueair will pay for all shipping charges. After that, they will only pay shipping back to you.
To keep the warranty, the filters must be replaced every 6 months. You can sign up and have the filters automatically shipped to you.
We like this air purifier. It gives you the same efficiency as the other air purifiers. We like the addition of the remote control. It makes it very easy to change settings without having to get off the sofa or out of bed. We also like the automatic setting. The machine works harder if the air is dirtier. It only takes one night of leaving it set on automatic for you to remember to set it to the lowest setting at night.
It removes most of the allergens in the air. It's a great choice for an allergy sufferer. It will also work well for anyone who wants cleaner air.
We like the optional activated carbon filter. We highly recommend that if you purchase this one, you also buy the smokestop filters. Remember that if smoke and odors are you primary concern, you should purchase a different air purifier.
The maintenance cost is a little on the high side. To keep the warranty you have to replace the filters twice a year for $120 or more.
Overall, this is a very good air purifier for allergy suffers to use.
