The warranty is pro-rated as follows:
Less than 2 years | 40% off the retail price |
Between 2 and 3 years | 30% off the retail price |
Between 3 and 4 years | 20 % off the retail price |
Between 4 and 5 years | 10% off the retail price |
This means that if you air filter needs replacing after 28 months, Austin will give you a 30% discount off the retail price of a new filter.
In order to get this discount you have to call Austin and speak to a customer service representative at (800) 724-8403. They may want to see your filter, so don't throw it away yet.
And, of course, you will have to pay for shipping.
The replacement filters are expensive to purchase if you only look at the price. You need to remember you will only need to replace the filter every 3 - 5 years on average.
If you are a heavy smoker or have a lot of pollutants in your house you may need to replace the filter more ofter.

The pre-filter is included with each of these Austin air replacement filters. You can buy one separately, too. They are about $20 each.
The pre-filters used during the filtering process are designed to be cleaned with a vacuum from the outside of the air purifier.
Austin recommends you vacuum it out every 3 months. Since they are cheap you might want to consider replacing them more frequently than the regular filter.
This means the machine can't tell you when the filter needs to be replaced. So if it needs to be replaced sooner than 5 years you will have to figure out if the filter is still working.
If you smell odors in the air leaving the machine, it's a good sign that you need to buy an Austin air replacement filter.
Washing a HEPA filter will cause it not to work. Please don't wash your filters. When they go bad, you have to buy a new filter.
To replace the filter you have to follow these steps:
Turn the air purifier upside down and remove the screw on the bottom plate.
Remove the filter and put it into a large plastic bag.
Remove the pre-filter and put it in the bag, too.
Put in the new pre-filter.
Put in the new filter.
Screw the bottom plate back on.
Be sure to run the air purifier on high for 1 hour.
